45RPM Coming to DVD!

I can’t believe it’s finally here! The movie I had the great pleasure to work on a few years ago with the incredible Juli Jackson on her full-length, Arkansas-made feature – 45RPM – which I helped not only with branding, but also did most of the work for the artist in the film, including 30+ sketches, 20 large paintings, a sketchbook, hundreds of frames of animation and more! Not only that, but I have done the branding and much of the packaging for the movie.

Well, good news!!

45RPM is now available for preorder on DVD!! And if you hurry, you can get in on the limited edition 7″ record with THE song from the movie!

Quick Movie Overview:

Charlie, an artist who seeks a connection between her work and her estranged father’s music, teams up with Louie, an obsessive record collector from Memphis, and together they begin an exhaustive search for a rare 45 recording from the 1960s Arkansas garage rock scene that takes them both on a journey across the seldom-explored landscape of the new Old South.

Be sure to hurry and order yours today! The official release date for DVD and VOD is March 14th.

Special Event in Northwest Arkansas

Mandy Maxwell at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

The Open Road Film Series presents an outdoor screening of the Arkansas-based film 45 RPM, as well as a pre-screening conversation with Arkansas filmmaker Juli Jackson, artist Mandy Maxwell, and actor Jason Thompson. 45 RPM is a dark comedy following a road trip through Arkansas, told from the perspective of a young woman journeying to become an artist. Drawing on Arkansas’ unique musical heritage, showcasing local artists, and featuring original music, 45 RPM brings together a wealth of modern talent and Southern music legends, including bluesman CeDell Davis, rockabilly pioneer Joyce Green, and early garage rockers The Coachmen and The Spyders. Artwork from the film will be on display. Free, register online or by calling Guest Services at 479.657.2335. Sponsored by inVeritas and Demara Titzer.

2016 Ozark Foothills Film Fest Branding

2016-poster-sm

Once again, I worked with the wonderful people at the Ozark Foothills Film Fest to create the branding for this year’s fest. In the past I try to work in the theme of the Ozarks and Arkansas, at least in some way, but this year I went a different route. I chose something more eye catching and direct.

I am looking forward to the lineup this year. They always do an amazing job of selecting very memorable films.

2016 Main Street Awards

Last night was a big surprise for me. We helped host an awards ceremony for our local Main Street organization, of which I am VP. Awards were given to outstanding businesses and community members. I won local Volunteer of the Year for my town. Ben also won Local Hero award.

AND THEN…

Representatives from the Arkansas Main Street state program were there to give 2 awards to our community. I kind of guessed we had won for Best Online Presence. (I created our website: Downtown Paragould this year, and Gina, our director, does an amazing job with our social media.) But, to my incredible surprise, I also won the Volunteer of the Year from the state Main Street program!

2016 Oxford Film Fest

What a weekend! Not only did I get to catch up with some wonderful filmmakers I have met in the past, but also got to meet some new and very incredible people, and see inspired films from around the world.

I can’t help but go on and on about one meeting in particular. Those who know me know I have an over-the-top love for all-things Adventure Time. It is by far my favorite show on tv. The impressive story and inspiring surrealism just get my creativity going. I am proud to say I got to not only meet, but hang out with the coolest cat around, Kent Osborne. He a writer and storyboard artist for the show.

Just look at the dumb grin on my face. As starstruck as I was, I also felt like we were old friends or something. I will never forge this momentous occasion.

I also won the shirt raffle! Greatest swag I’ve ever seen!

And I met the voice actor for  a character named Root Beer Guy on Adventure Time. I didn’t want to ask for an autograph on regular paper, so I quickly drew his character in my sketchbook. He loved it and wrote “Mandy, this is a great Root Beer Guy and I should know!” Perfect!

There are so many more stories I could tell from my time at the film fest. Definitely started a new tradition. Well worth the motivation and inspiration it has given me.  I cannot wait til next year.

Painters on Snapchat

For a while now I have been actively showing my works-in-progress on Snapchat. It is a great platform for informal, behind-the-scenes stories that are more personal and real because they disappear to the public.

Are you a Artist on Snapchat?

I have also found it to be quite difficult to find other artists on Snapchat. Typically “snapchat artists” on emerging directories are referring to people who doodle on their snaps with the built-in capabilities of the app. Don’t get me wrong, @Cakes1toDough1 ‘s cute cats are to die for, but I’d love to watch the daily practices of fellow traditional artists. If you draw or paint on snapchat please send me a friend request – mandyatlarge – let me know and I will definitely give you an add back!

Happy Chatting Fellow Snappers!
